It's a little ironic, but sometimes men get overlooked in the effort to bring equality to theatre, but that's by design. We have to give up some of our power and privilege if we want to give space to women. But working towards that goal deserves recognition, and so we want to send a special thank you to triangle producer Sean Malone for his commitment to supporting women in local theatre. He has chosen seven incredibly talented women to direct all seven one-act plays in Cary Playwrights' Forum's Bar Plays 3.0, running November 14-16 at Fortnight Brewing. The lineup of directors includes Noelle Barnard Azarelo, Michelle Corbitt, Marina Enslen, Kat Froehlich, Nicola Lefler, Kelly Hunter Stansell, and Pimpila Violette.
In addition, the ensemble features 50% women and six of the seven plays are written or co-written by female playwrights: Marilynn Barner Anselmi, Michelle Corbitt, April Giancola, Laura Harris, Andy Ressler, and Irene Rockwell. Thanks, Sean, for setting a great example for other allies in the triangle area! Please go see BarPlays 3.0, which runs 11/14-11/16!
