WTF is proud to announce Kayla M. Kaufman as the director for Crumble (Lay Me Down Justin Timberlake). We are extremely excited to have her on board as a director for our 2018 Women are Heroes theme! Learn more about her below!
Kayla M. Kaufman is a director, producer, and dramaturg. She graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2017 with a double degree from the University Honors Program in Theater Arts and Film & TV Production. She loves work that celebrates diversity, provokes discussion, and makes audiences laugh or cry (or both). Her favorite production she’s directed so far has been her thesis, The Taming by Lauren Gunderson, which checked all those boxes. She has had the pleasure of working at Portland Stage, Santa Cruz Shakespeare, Marin Shakespeare, and with her own group, Pinecone & Tassel Collective. If she's not in the theater, she's probably reading a book, hiking a mountain, or admiring some local trees. She is quite excited to direct at such an amazingly forward thinking and inclusive festival like the Women’s Theater Festival, especially with such a new audience for her in Raleigh. She is particularly thrilled to be directing Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake) by Sheila Callaghan since it celebrates the women it features through showing them as complex, flawed beings with their heart in the right place as they all strive to be heroes of some sort.
